Kingmakers on PC: Steam and Epic

PC is the only platform Kingmakers is listed on, and it has two store pages: Steam, where the publisher says Early Access will launch and where the playtest sign-up lives, and the Epic Games Store, which the official website also links. Both list Windows only. Neither can sell the game yet.

The two store pages

Steam · the main page

Coming soon

The Steam page is where the Early Access release has been announced for, where you request playtest access, and where you wishlist. For now it says:

This game is not yet available on Steam

Steam store page. From the Kingmakers Steam store page

Epic Games Store · linked by the official site

Coming Soon

The Epic page sits next to the Steam button on the official Kingmakers website. It lists hardware requirements that Steam does not show, and it does not have the playtest.

The publisher’s latest release line names only Steam Early Access, so whether Epic opens on the same day is not known.

The one real disagreement is Turkish, which Steam lists and Epic does not. Neither page says which is current. The Epic hardware numbers are laid out on Kingmakers system requirements.

GOG and other stores

No GOG or Microsoft Store listing turned up in the checks behind this page. Asked about GOG, the game director did not rule it out for later:

Paul Fisch Game director, replying on the Steam forum

GoG isn’t ruled out or anything. For EA it isn’t targeted right now though because getting on additional storefronts is actually a significant amount of work in terms of supporting crossplay/achievements/etc, and we are focused on getting to EA as soon as we can.

Thread: Paul Fisch on GOG and other storefronts, Steam discussions

Crossplay is one of the costs he named. Whether Steam and Epic players will be able to join each other is covered on Kingmakers crossplay.

Downloading Kingmakers

There is nothing to download from either store until release, apart from the playtest build for people who are invited. No Microsoft Store listing turned up either. Game Pass has not been mentioned at all, as set out on Kingmakers and Game Pass. A site offering a Kingmakers download or key today is not selling the game. Why you cannot even pre-order it is on Kingmakers price.
