The Kingmakers movie

A live-action Kingmakers film is in development at Netflix, before the game itself has come out. Netflix acquired a pitch for the film rather than a finished project, Christopher MacBride is writing it, and no director, cast or release window has been announced.

From a partnership to Netflix

First, on Steam
A film partner, before any streamer

The developers announced the film as a partnership with Story Kitchen.

We have partnered with Story Kitchen to bring you a live-action film adaptation of our upcoming medieval time-traveling action game

Redemption Road and tinyBuild. From Steam announcement: Kingmakers is coming to the big screen!

Then, in the trade press
Netflix buys the pitch

Netflix has acquired a feature pitch based on the upcoming action-strategy sandbox game Kingmakers, developed by Redemption Road Games and published by tinyBuild. Christopher MacBride is adapting the script.

Deadline. Reported by Deadline: Netflix, 21 Laps and Story Kitchen developing Kingmakers

A pitch is an idea for a film, not a script or a greenlit production. Wikipedia describes the deal as Netflix buying the rights to distribute the film; the Deadline report does not say that.

How far along it is

The game studio says it is not directly involved in making the film. Asked about it on the Steam forum, the game director said:

It is not something we are directly involved in, and my understanding is that progress is quite slow.
